A Boy and His Boat, Ch. 3

Jack waited for Saturday to come. It seemed like it took a long time, because Jack was so excited. He was happy that his father was willing to help him build a boat. Saturday eventually came, and, after they ate breakfast, Jack and his father headed to the store to buy supplies. Jack’s father bought wood and nails, and he also got some things that Jack had never heard of. They got all the supplies, carried it all out to the car, and headed home. When they got home, Jack’s father laid out all the supplies in their garage. Then they got to work. It was hard work, and Jack wasn’t sure why his father did some things, but he trusted his father to do it correctly. It didn’t really look like a box when it was finished, but more like a real boat. It was pointed at the front, for one thing. Jack’s father said that would make it easier to move forward, especially if it was windy. His Dad also made an oar to paddle the water and thus cause the boat to move across the water. When the boat was finished, they laid it onto Jack’s wagon and rolled it out to the lake. Jack’s father picked the small boat up and eased it into the water. Jack was so excited! A real boat!

Taking a Chance

Don’t know the outcome

Until it’s too late to run.

Trapped in a trailer,

No, flooding isn’t fun.

How many days

Will we go without power?

How many times

Did they say get out now, or else?

Storm surge is wicked.

Never seen such a thing.

It filled up my house,

And might just drowned me!

They said we should leave,

But we’re taking a chance.

Maybe God will intervene

To save a smarty pants.

An Afternoon at the Beach

I wandered out of a cave next to the ocean. I bent down and picked up a sea shell, looked at it for a few seconds, then skipped it across the water. I looked down the beach, and saw a boy on a skim board, riding the waves in to the beach. He looked like he was having a great time.

I looked out at the ocean and saw a cruise ship sailing by. Then I saw a killer whale break the surface of the water and crash back down into the waves. Down the beach, there was a pier extending out into the water. A man on the pier who was fishing saw the whale and shouted to the boy to get into the beach.

The man fishing gave me an idea. I decided I’d get out my fishing pole and see if I could catch me some dinner. I attached a hook to my line and got out a bucket with some shrimp that I had caught earlier with a net. I put one of the shrimp on the hook and tossed the line out into the water.

The Sun Sets

Waves crashing on the beach.

I feel peachy to know

The secret inside your mind.

I don’t mean to hide.

I just want an honest answer.

Do you prefer

Grilled or fried?

I’m not too picky.

I like both.

I haven’t smoked

In a month.

Terrible habit, it is.

The sun is setting

In the purple sky.

One last glimpse

And then it’s gone.
