A Target

All quiet in the western country,

Brushes with death aside.

Another disturbed person with a gun

Going after innocent people.

Can you believe that something

Like this could happen?

As much as I don’t like the man,

I wish him well and pray for his safety.

Nobody should have to deal with this.

I’m glad he didn’t get hurt too badly,

And that they were able to get the guy who fired the shots.

I’m sorry that one of the bystanders was killed,

And that others were badly hurt.

Freedom and justice are important,

And Trump is one of God’s children,

Just like everyone else.

May God bless him

For what he suffered.

Trust

Start to see a difference,

How you talk and walk.

You have an honest opinion,

But you don’t let it become a fault.

You fight for those who have no voice.

You encourage those who are humble.

You defend the rights and blessings

That come with living in our country.

Only you know how hard it’s been.

And I know you’ve stumbled.

I know you got lost sometimes.

But I won’t hold that against you,

Because I understand your heart

Is in the right place.

Your mind is not full of litter.

Your body is clean as a temple.

I trust you with being in charge.

And I know you are a great leader.

I’ll support you, in thick and thin.

I’ll pray for your health and wisdom.

I can rest easy

Knowing you’re at the helm.

Thank you for earning my trust!

Without Love

Climbing a hill to get out of the city,

Not in shape, so it’s not pretty.

Will you try to meet me there?

I don’t care that you don’t care.

I just want to talk to you

About some stuff that I’ve been through.

Can you see the ending near?

Can you tell I’m full of fear?

If only once I meet another,

Someone I can call my brother.

Maybe we can spend some time

Listening and making rhymes.

Maybe we can find a way

Out of here. No, we won’t stay.

Let’s combine our talents now.

You and I can make a vow.

Never leave each other alone,

Without love you cannot write a song.

Without love…

Notion

Looking at the stars from quite afar,

I lounge in my PJs and count the work days,

And hope to grace I don’t lose my face,

Following rockets into outer space.

Can you embrace the logic?

Or have I lost my locket?

Coasting across the Indian Ocean,

I feel myself reflex to the bubbling potion.

Is there an answer, or an ending,

To this notion?

Summer Bird

Summer bird, sing your song.

Tweedle-eet-deet, fly up and up,

To your nest in the tree.

Feed your babies from your beak.

Watch for shadows of preying hawks.

Watch for squirrels, thieves of food.

Winter bird, what will you do,

When there’s nothing to eat

Not far from home?

Winter bird, do you rise early,

To dig in the ground

For a crawling worm?

Something small, something good.

Something precious in the woods.
