Cling and Bow

Starch a shirt, a menial task.

Wash a pair of pants,

Drink from a flask.

Beware of infinite losses,

Clinging to your arm

In the middle of the night.

Don’t pick a fight.

You might, I know.

Catch the flow

Of air conditioning

On my skinny toes.

Feel the ringing in your ear.

Try to steer your car

Away from trouble now.

Cling and bow.

Cling and bow.

A Clue

The sheets of rain fell from the sky,

Down on my head, making me high.

Can I rescue you with a clue?

Can I help you stand for a moment?

I lost my grip on your hand.

I lost my senses. Now I can’t.

Can you feel the flow of rivers slow?

Do you get drenched with heaven now?

Place your hand in my hand.

Walk with me. Feel the fan on my face.

Heat rises, closes in, floods the air.

Get a taste. Win the race.

Make a play. Pull up a chair.

A Nurse

You are weak, in this difficult time.

I am not strong, I’m sorry to say.

Can you see an open door,

Out of this place?

Can you see the tears

Falling down my face?

I don’t know the answer to your pain,

Or to mine.

I can’t tell which way to go.

Is there a paper to read?

Is there a horizon to see?

Is there a nurse to rescue me, too?

Connection

Sadness creeps up the wall

That you have painstakingly

Constructed around you.

Grief builds.

A crack of anger emerges.

Will you be alone forever?

A hot-air balloon rises out of the valley,

And up past your window.

Past swells into present into future.

There is someone else in your world.

There are others who care about you.

The phone rings, the doorbell chimes.

The clock ticks.

Time keeps you company.

Your destiny arrives.

You exist for a reason.

Someone needs your presence.

Join the motion around you.

Feel the connection.

Thirteen in One

Front row seats at your circus.

Trapeze artist swings, flings and clings

With the best of them. Tweet?

Lions jump through fiery rings,

Only to step in elephant poop.

Must have fed them at the wrong time.

Ring a bell, then here comes

The clown car at high speed.

Screeches to a halt and empties thirteen.

It’s a good show, but the popcorn’s stale,

And the chocolate covered raisins

Melted in my hand (it was hot too).

Eat a Cookie

Rearrange the spoon in my belt.

Croon to the moon just how I felt.

King of things betrays the servant.

Don’t look that way. It’s all I can do.

Nothing but gum stuck to my shoe.

Do you live in the path of mess?

You can tell me. Please, confess.

It’s the same in every camp.

Drop it off without a stamp.

Whistle a nifty tune in the dark.

Up the chimney, left your mark.
