Meandering

Moving into the setting sun,

Seems a waste to me.

Catching spoonfuls of rain

Happens at a lower rate.

Inebriated groundhogs

Come stumbling into the light.

Sworn judges of character flaws

Rub the whiskey right.

Start a feel for better days.

Count them as they come.

Drink to your health.

Don’t drink again.

I have no more

Sugar to pour.

Can you see me

Spinning on my axis?

Can you see the can’ts

Flow into a tantrum?

Stop the stance.

Catch the roaming home.

Positive

Jumping into a cold, rushing stream;

Gives you a jolt—don’t slip on the rocks!

Standing on a hilltop amidst a strong wind…

Can you remember the exhilaration?

Don’t fall over!

Stepping into a cold shower—wow!

The blood runs quickly and you shiver.

Wake up! Today is the day.

Do your best with what you have.

Show your positive side, and

Make something happen.

Get out there into the world, and

Bless somebody!

Get Him!

Democrat attorney, swing right.

Woman of color, swing left.

Suspicious, skeptic, descendant of the middle class,

Positive, certain, confident achiever,

Kamala knows what she wants,

And she knows how to get it.

She sees through the lies,

And won’t be distracted or surprised,

Just when you think he couldn’t

Go any lower! Get him!

Freedom

Can I take a liberty?

Can I see, how I fall short

Of perfection?

Be perfect.

Then, take a liberty.

Until then,

Stay humble,

Carry your own weight,

As well as that of your brother,

And learn the ways of love,

Which are easy and whose

Burden is light.

They will appear heavy,

Because I do not see as God sees.

But all in good time.

When I am ready,

I will see clearly.

Until then,

I must suffer and die

To the old self,

So I can be born again anew.

Lumber in My Eye

If only I could do

What I want to do,

I would mess up my life,

And have nobody to blame

But myself.

As it is, my vision is only partial,

My wisdom is clouded

By my pride and selfishness.

The obvious gets lost

In all the illusions and self-deceptions

That fill up my mind;

And my insight is broken—

I cannot see to remove the splinter

From the eye of others,

Because of the lumber that is

Lodged in my own.

Games

Saying the truth.

Is it so hard?

Why does everything

Have to come out backwards

Or in double speak?

Why all the games?

Maybe it’s because many people

Don’t want the truth.

They’d rather be told lie after lie.

Maybe many people would rather

Live in a fantasy land,

Where everything they’re afraid of

Is exaggerated and twisted,

And everything they yearn for

Is offered free and easy.

Just offer your mind, body and soul,

And we’ll give you what you want.

Introducing

Jostling around for a candy cane,

Picking out flowers while tied to a chain,

Moving up ‘til I go insane,

Nothin’ except respect for the woman.

Do you think that she’ll go far?

Aren’t her skills so above par?

She can make three arguments

Why we should be free on this continent.

Let’s go, Kamala. Break fast in a hurry.

Nothin’ comes close to her—don’t doubt me.

We can go all the way in this country.

We don’t worry about the G.O.P.

A Target

All quiet in the western country,

Brushes with death aside.

Another disturbed person with a gun

Going after innocent people.

Can you believe that something

Like this could happen?

As much as I don’t like the man,

I wish him well and pray for his safety.

Nobody should have to deal with this.

I’m glad he didn’t get hurt too badly,

And that they were able to get the guy who fired the shots.

I’m sorry that one of the bystanders was killed,

And that others were badly hurt.

Freedom and justice are important,

And Trump is one of God’s children,

Just like everyone else.

May God bless him

For what he suffered.
