Freedom

Can I take a liberty?

Can I see, how I fall short

Of perfection?

Be perfect.

Then, take a liberty.

Until then,

Stay humble,

Carry your own weight,

As well as that of your brother,

And learn the ways of love,

Which are easy and whose

Burden is light.

They will appear heavy,

Because I do not see as God sees.

But all in good time.

When I am ready,

I will see clearly.

Until then,

I must suffer and die

To the old self,

So I can be born again anew.

Lumber in My Eye

If only I could do

What I want to do,

I would mess up my life,

And have nobody to blame

But myself.

As it is, my vision is only partial,

My wisdom is clouded

By my pride and selfishness.

The obvious gets lost

In all the illusions and self-deceptions

That fill up my mind;

And my insight is broken—

I cannot see to remove the splinter

From the eye of others,

Because of the lumber that is

Lodged in my own.
