Having fresh eggs
Would be so nice,
But I gag when
I consider what it
Would be like to
Maintain
A chicken coop.
Then I omit
That thought,
Knowing
I would never
Own a chicken coop
Anyway.
So much for
The possibility
Of fresh eggs.

I was practically a vegetarian for more than 15 years. Not vegan but, I just stopped eating all meat because I love animals and hate the cruelty that goes into factory farming now. same with eggs, I hate the cruelty of Battery farms. I only eat an egg, once in a blue moon, your prose has reminded me, why!..LOL
Thanks for visiting and the comment.
thank you, Daydreamer. I think my values are not quite so noble, however. i am one that enjoys the suburbs and its conveniences, while disdaining getting hot and dirty like a farmer. My wife is trying to talk me into the farm life, but there’s no doin’ right now. No eggs for now!
What an wonderful poem..it was like collecting the egg-thoughts in your head..putting them in a basket of neatly wrapped verse..and chicken poop certainly does stink..Jae
Thank you, Jae. I appreciate it. And don’t forget the feathers. 🙂
Oh, thank you, Gordon! It was a wonderful way to bring a smile to my face!! I grew up on a farm. We didn’t have chicken…we had pigs. So we had lots of bacon to go with the eggs we got from neighbors! 🙂
I especially loved the use of the word “gag” from the 3WW. 🙂

Thanks, Paula. I have experienced a farm through my in-laws. They have had several things, sometimes pigs, cows, but even in retirement, chickens. And they do share their eggs when when we see them, which is what made me consider them, that and a bit of silliness.
I’m glad you liked my poem, that it brought a smile to your face, and that my city-boy reaction went over so well for you.
Very cute my grandmother had chickens but they kept breaking out and chasing cars in the street.
That’s hilarious. Sounds like another reason to “omit” the thought of keeping chickens! 🙂
it’s really a big deal to bypass the local market…. the luxury of luxury…
I looked after chickens when I was young it is a lot of work now I just pay the extra and let someone I truly appreciate do the work for me.
I guess your chickens were not in a cage. That must have been hard work!
Fresh eggs are great, but I suggest you find a farm! They kinda smell and draw animals of all kinds…such self-revealing humor….
